Okay, back from a short flight northward over the holidays. Regular blogging activities will resume soon. In the meantime, here are some highlights from harder working bloggers:
VBDems reports that Will Sessoms will be an out-of-touch Mayor who governs from his business office at TowneBank. Here’s Sessoms in his own words:
Meyera and I do things differently. Meyera was much more visible to the community than this mayor will be.
Meetings are expected to be shorter, since decisions will already have been reached behind closed doors.
“It’s his business background,” said council member Ron Villanueva.
“There are going to be some voids to fill,” council member Barbara Henley said. “It was a luxury to have somebody who devoted all her time to the city.”
I guess that $630,000 from developers should have clued us in.
Vivian Paige reports on Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney Harvey Bryant’s response to the Virginian-Pilot’s dishonest editorial, chastising Bryant for asking Portsmouth Commonwealth’s Attorney Earle Mobley to act as special prosecutor as to the illegal and fraudulent fliers distributed by paid Sessoms campaign operatives on election day.
How many facts can the Virginian-Pilot disingenuously omit in one short editorial? Well, the illegal Sessoms fliers originated in the Virginia Beach office of the Williams Mullen law firm, the office of Sessoms’ guy-pal Bill Harrison, a former council member, and also the office of former Republican delegate, former UBS mortgage lender, and current mortgage lobbyist (industry: Republican) Terrie Suit. The fliers came in printer’s boxes, and matched other fliers the Sessoms campaign distributed at other precincts. Authorities apparently know who ordered the fliers, who distributed them, and who paid the bill.
Yeah, that’s a nearly impossible case to prosecute, Virginian-Pilot, and our Commonwealth’s Attorney clearly shirked his Republican duty to sweep it under the rug. Fortunately, the crack Virginian-Pilot editorial board jumped in to misrepresent the facts and to urge law enforcement authorities to refuse to enforce the law.
Curious. I don’t find Bryant’s response, published on December 26th, anywhere on the Virginian-Pilot’s website. Coincidence? Needless suspicion? Or just another “relatively minor” lapse from editors who obviously have an important party to attend at Will Sessoms’ house?
